"Revolution" Review

Hello, my name is Katie Greene and this podcast is a review of NBC’s new hit TV show, “Revolution”. “Revolution” takes place in present-day America, where, for some unknown reason, the power has gone out. Because of this the United States has fallen and has been replaced with an organization known as the Monroe Republic. So naturally my friends and I thought this TV show would be interesting. It’s not another crime-drama or a new reality show with people we’ve never heard of. I thought it would be a breath of fresh air, but after watching the pilot, I cannot say that I’m particularly interested in the show anymore. It has many faults in my opinion. For one the show moves way too fast. After the capture of her brother, one of the main characters, Charlie sets off with two others to find the uncle she’s never met in Chicago. Well she travels to Chicago, finds her uncle in the first building she tries, and convinces him to help her all in one episode. He is also the first person she happens to ask about him. I feel like the journey could’ve been extended to supply more character introductions and backgrounds. Because they didn’t do this, I find Charlie very annoying. There was never really a chance to show the audience how protective she is of her little brother, who is 18 by the way, but the way she talks about him you’d think he’s 10. And I’m not really a fan of the uncle, Miles, either. He’s like that character in every television series nowadays that has to have a dark and mysterious past, which fills him with regret and he cannot talk about it. And the way he talks to other characters, he might as well say, “Look, you’re an idiot so do what I say”. It just bothers me that none of the characters really have any depth. I like the idea of the show; I just think it needs to be done differently. Perhaps the more the series goes on, the better it will be. It is still too early to tell, and I’m still trying to give it a chance. But see how Revolution is for yourself! It’s on every Monday night at 10 on NBC. Thanks for listening!

Fall is here!

Trees around campus have begun to change their leaves from a deep green to gorgeous shades of red and orange.

Summer is beginning to fade away and hopefully this huge bees nest I found on campus will do the same.

Students of Westfield

In her natural habitat, my roommate Sara works hard to earn her nursing degree.

Usually annoyed at the sight of us, Matt continues to grow annoyed as I continue to "document his existence".

Westfield State

Students can either spend their time studying hard in their dorm rooms...

... or relaxing in the dozens of lawn chairs out on the green.

Expanding the campus

Westfield has been undergoing several construction projects at once on campus such as expanding the campus center and a new residential building.

Dirt and gravel roads and equipment from the construction has replaced the green in front of Ely.

Me

This is me in my room, where I am normally surrounded by electronics. Though you can't really see it, I'm wearing my high school tee shirt.
Not much of a self-portrait, but this is my boyfriend and I who are attached to the hip when together. I think this illustrates it quite nicely. The current school I attend is represented in this photograph.

CutePolish

Starting in early 2010, CutePolish began on YouTube by making nail art tutorial videos with clear instructions and simple techniques that anyone can do. The videos are created and narrated by an unknown woman with a crystal clear voice and steady hands, making her nail art simply flawless. Some of these techniques she shows in the videos include using dotting tools to create mini mustaches and using tattoos as a way of creating easy nail artwork. Videos are added every week, bringing new easy methods to viewers on how to do today's top nail polish trends such as water marble nails and galaxy nails.

CutePolish’s popularity increased dramatically within the past year or so. It began to interact with its viewers, asking for suggestions on future videos and for photos of recreations. The channel has now received over a hundred million page views on its YouTube channel and moved onto other social networking sites. It currently has over two hundred million likes on Facebook and almost 200,000 followers on Twitter. Because of this success, it has attracted the attention of other companies. Earlier this summer, CutePolish announced that it has partnered with Disney on its new fashion YouTube channel, Disney Style. Each month, CutePolish creates a new nail art design for the channel such as a design inspired by the dress worn by the main character of Disney and Pixar’s newest film, Brave, and the face of Perry the Platypus from Disney Channel’s hit television show, “Phineas and Ferb”. CutePolish has even begun to create new organic nail products now available on its official site and continues its success on its original YouTube channel.

Silly Bandz

Silly Bandz became a popular accessory for children and teenagers in the late 2000s. They can easily be worn as bracelets or function as regular rubber bands. However, what sets Silly Bandz apart from the typical rubber bracelet is that they are known for creating the shapes of things such as animals, pop culture characters, and various other objects. This concept allowed the product to become popular as they became ‘must have’ objects of collecting and trading among younger generations.

To increase Silly Bandz’s exposure, the company began a Facebook campaign for a million fans. This goal was achieved within two months. Starting out with over 400,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook already, Silly Bandz used the social networking site to target users who had already ‘liked’ interests such as Hello Kitty, Justin Bieber, and Sponge Bob. The company was able to generate more fans when it began to interact with its customers using Facebook. They would do this by asking fans random questions and getting to know their customers’ interests, feedback, and the latest pop culture trends. Friends of fans would see the activity, and in turn, may have even become a fan of the page as well. The response of Facebook users allowed Silly Bandz to produce more shapes that would interest children and teens. By using Facebook, Silly Bandz was able to receive the type of exposure that made their company so successful.
